The success of the event can be attributed to a great collaboration between the hosts: the State Academy of Forestry Administration (STAFA), State Forestry Administration, China, Libo County, as well as RECOFTC- The Center for People and Forests and ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN). The event was also attended by Asia Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management (APFNet) and Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).

Forest Landscape Restoration in ASEAN Countries

The choice of Forest Landscape Restoration as a thematic focus for this year's CF Champions Network event is based on its relevance to the current forest conditions in ASEAN countries. Lao PDR for instance, has targeted to increase forest cover to 65 % by 2015 and 70% by 2020, of which 500,000 ha would be alotted for commercial tree plantations.

In 2000, the Forest Department in Myanmar announced its 30- year plan, aiming to reforest 2.27 million acres of forest by 2030. However, by 2015 only 120,000 acres (5%) have been restored. In Thailand, the 2014 National Forest Master Plan aims to increase forest cover to 40% by 2024 but only achieved 32.1% (FAO 2015).
